Both Dry Needling and Acupuncture involve the insertion of thin needles into certain parts the body, However the two treatments are very different.
Often used as part of a larger treatment plan, It is widely misunderstood by many patients who liken the procedure to Acupuncture.

The difference between Dry needling also known as Myofascial Trigger Point Dry Needling — a remarkable and completely natural treatment for chronic and acute pain — is that this Technique is performed by using needles inserted into a Muscular Trigger Point or a band of muscle located within larger muscle.
When the needles are inserted into these Trigger Points the therapist will sometimes wind the needle until they elicit a response like a twitch or ache that releases the trigger point and restore the muscle to a more normal function. Needles generally sit for only a few minutes before being removed. Sometimes longer being beneficial during and post the Remedial Treatment, Assisting with the release and restoration of the soft tissue.
Dry Needling is a relatively new treatment to the Western culture that was introduced in the 1980s and used by Chiropractors, Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, Myotherapist and Remedial Massage Therapists.
Dry Needling in Eastern countries is actually as old as Acupuncture and is often used at the same time during a treatment, Depending on the patients needs. Both treatments are only performed by trained and very skilled therapists.
Acupuncture is different in that, needles are inserted into points along meridian lines. These lines represent the body’s organs, This is based on an ancient Chinese medicine dating back thousands of years.
