What Matters Most

Today I write from the beach, recentering myself and remembering what matters most. It’s so easy, isn’t it, to get swept up in the busyness of life—always thinking, always doing—leaving no room to simply be.

This is one of the many reasons I love to travel—even with kids in tow. Travel nudges me out of my head and home and into the broader world. It forces a shift in perspective and opens up space to reflect on the bigger picture: What really matters?
So, let me ask you—what matters to you? Do you know? Do you remind yourself often enough to ensure your minutes, your energy, and your choices are aligned with what truly matters?
We are, after all, only given two irreplaceable gifts in life: time and the freedom to choose how we spend it.
If you're already clear on what matters most, then ask yourself:
“Is my life—and my time—focused on the things that matter most to me?”
If family matters, are you making space for true quality time? If faith matters, is your day infused with spiritual connection? If your well-being matters, are you honouring your body, your boundaries, your peace?
Be honest with yourself—not to judge, but to grow.
And if you're not yet clear on what matters most, then consider this your invitation to begin. Find a quiet moment. Sit still. Breathe deeply. Ask yourself:
“What really matters to me?”
The answer may not appear right away. Be patient. Let it unfold. When clarity arrives—whether in one sentence or a scattered list—write it down. Let it evolve. Then gently compare your current lifestyle with this list. What needs adjusting? Where is there misalignment?
And remember: Don’t settle for what’s merely “good” or “better.”Seek what is best. Seek what is yours.
Time is the currency of your life. Spend it wisely. Spend it richly.
Which reminds me, I need to go and do what matters most to me—walking barefoot on the sand, dogs beside me, scanning the sea for dolphins.
