Blasting Music and Busting a Move

I started dancing when I was three years old. Since then, it's been a part of my life in some capacity.
I used to take structured classes. One hour of stretching, 30 minutes in the center, and 30 minutes across the floor.

It worked for me until it didn’t. I started craving less repetition and more freedom.
Now I take hour-long classes where I get to learn a new combo full of new moves each week. Between attending classes with actual dance teachers, I still find time to dance in my room, the kitchen, or elsewhere around my house.
It sounds silly, but morning dance parties have become a regular habit in my life.
I wake up, get myself slightly together, and start shuffling my favorite dance mix.
My morning dancing isn’t pretty, it’s not graceful and it doesn’t follow rules. It’s all over the place, but it’s so much fun.
After around 5–10 minutes of dancing, I feel energized and ready to start my day.
I also stopped drinking coffee or caffeine in the morning because I noticed it would impact me negatively, leaving me feeling sluggish and nervous.
Dancing does not have any negative repercussions for me (besides leaving me a little sweaty). It is freeing and refreshing.
Instead of waking up and feeling stressed, I take time to be present.
These moments have also made me feel more comfortable with myself and in tune with my body.
In the past, I used to think that dancing had to look or feel a certain way. It doesn’t. Anyone can be a dancer because dancing doesn’t have to be “stylistically correct.” It can be flowy, big, wild and any way you feel.
On busy mornings when I’m in a rush and do not have the time to bust a move, I try to end my days with a dance.
